Confirming a Gold Loan Renewal Through Written Records in the IIFL Loans App
Table of Contents
Many borrowers reach the maturity date of a gold loan and ask the lender to renew it. Later on, they are not fully sure whether the renewal actually went through. Renewal means that the loan carries on for a fresh term on revised terms, instead of getting closed.
This blog explains how to check whether a gold loan has been renewed, which records confirm it and which screen changes can mislead. What the RBI rules say on renewal, along with the documents and process involved, is covered too.
What Renewal Means Under the RBI Directions
A number of gold loans are on bullet repayment, where interest and principal are paid together at the end of the term. Under the RBI (Lending Against Gold and Silver Collateral) Directions, 2025, such bullet loans availed for consumption can run for a maximum of 12 months.
The directions were implemented by regulated lenders from April 2026. They permit renewal on the borrower's formal request, for a standard account within the LTV limit. On a bullet loan, the accrued interest is paid first. Renewal is therefore a fresh decision of the lender and not an automatic extension.
Signs That Do Not Prove Renewal
Renewal Offer, Request Filed, or Balance Changed may all appear even prior to the actual process of renewing. The guide for the IIFL Loans App contains the procedure of Renewal for those accounts qualified for it, but the process described under that title is Top-Up Procedure.
A top-up adds fresh borrowing, whereas renewal continues the loan for a new term. To check whether a gold loan has been renewed, a borrower therefore looks past a top-up acknowledgement and towards the lender's written records.
Records That Confirm a Renewal
For those working out how to confirm gold loan renewal status, the clearest proof is the lender's written confirmation, read together with the revised loan terms. These are compared with the old agreement for the loan reference, effective date, new maturity date and repayment conditions.
Borrowers who wish to view renewed gold loan details in the app may see an updated maturity date or statement there. One changed date, however, is just a single piece of the picture. Where the app and the documents do not agree, a query quoting the loan and request references can be raised before the maturity date.
Documents Required for a Gold Loan Renewal
Most of the records involved in a renewal may already be with the lender from the original loan. These generally include:
- Photo identity proof, such as Aadhaar, passport or voter ID
- PAN card, generally needed for KYC, tax and regulatory purposes
- Updated address proof, in case the address has changed
- The existing loan agreement and the latest loan statement
- The receipt for the accrued interest paid before renewal
Where there is no PAN, Form 97, which replaced Form 60 from April 2026, may be considered as per lender policy. A lender may ask for declarations or records on ownership of the ornaments, where its procedure requires them. Any further papers depend on the loan amount and the lender's assessment.
Eligibility and Valuation
Conditions on age, residency and ownership are laid down by the regulations and the lender's policy. Credit history may be reviewed under the internal rules of the lender.
LTV (loan-to-value) is the share of the gold's assessed value that can be lent. The directions cap it at 85% up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% above ₹2.5 lakh up to ₹5 lakh, and 75% above ₹5 lakh. At renewal, the gold may be valued once again. The value is the lesser of the previous day's closing price and the 30-day average on IBJA or a SEBI-regulated exchange, adjusted for purity. Only net gold is counted.
A detailed credit assessment including repayment capacity is required where total gold and silver loans go above ₹2.5 lakh. At or below that level it is not required, though lenders may run their own checks.
Application Process
A renewal request generally moves ahead in the following way.
- A formal renewal request is placed with the regulated lender for the loan in question.
- The accrued interest is paid, and the lender records the payment against the loan.
- The financier reviews the loan's standing, the LTV position and, where required, the credit profile.
- Revised terms, with the new maturity date and the Key Facts Statement (a short cost summary), are shared for acceptance.
- The renewal is signed, and where any fresh amount is involved, disbursal follows once verification and the remaining formalities are complete.
When the renewed loan is finally repaid, the directions provide for return of the gold within seven working days. A delay by the lender attracts ₹5,000 for each day.
IIFL Finance Support for Gold Loan Applicants
IIFL Finance may offer gold loans, subject to the product being available. Every loan rests on the borrower's eligibility, the valuation of gold and the regulations of the time. The product can be suitable for borrowers whose need for funds continues beyond the first term. Interest and fees may differ across lenders and products owing to funding and risk factors.
In keeping with the regulations and lender policy, gold loan funds can go towards genuine personal or business uses, for example:
- Raw material for a small furniture workshop
- Coaching fees for an engineering entrance examination
- Spare parts for a tractor before the sowing season
- Expenses for a family function
The ornaments are pledged rather than sold, so the borrower continues to own them. They are returned after the loan is repaid as agreed.
Conclusion
Under the directions, a bullet gold loan is generally renewed on formal request after the accrued interest is paid. To check whether a gold loan has been renewed, the lender's written confirmation and revised terms are compared with the old agreement. An offer, a request receipt or one changed date is not proof on its own. Till revised terms are issued, the original maturity date generally stays in place. In gold loan, money can be raised against eligible gold, with ownership remaining with the borrower subject to repayment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which record confirms that renewal is complete?
The lender's written renewal confirmation, read with the updated terms, is how borrowers check whether a gold loan has been renewed. These are matched against the loan reference, effective date, new maturity date and repayment obligations.
Does renewal create a new loan account number?
Not as a fixed rule. Some renewals may keep the same reference while others show a new one, depending on the lender's system.
Does a renewal offer or acknowledgement prove the loan is renewed?
No. Renewal is made possible through the offer, the acknowledgement indicates receipt of the application and the completion will come with new terms in writing.
Can I use a top-up walkthrough to complete renewal?
No. Top-up means new borrowing, whereas renewal means carrying forward the loan for a new tenure period. The route of renewal approved by the bank is the applicable one.
Does a changed display date prove the whole renewal is complete?
Not on its own. One date on a screen is only part of the picture, and the full accepted terms show the outcome.
What if the loan has not been renewed by maturity?
The loan then falls due under the agreement. Missed repayment may lead to overdue status, disclosed penal charges and, after due notice, an auction of the gold.
