Five grams multiplied by ₹13,800 is ₹69,000. Take 85% of that and the answer is ₹58,650. That is the whole calculation behind a gold loan on 5 gram gold in 2026, using an illustrative 22 carat reference rate and the top LTV slab set by the RBI (Lending Against Gold and Silver Collateral) Directions, 2025, implemented by regulated lenders from April 2026. Three things change the answer: the benchmark price on the day, the purity of the piece, and whether the lender sanctions at the 85% ceiling or below it.

What Determines the Loan Amount on 5 Grams of Gold?

Only three inputs. The first one is the gold price, which the lenders use to appraise the value of the collateral as the lower of the previous days’ closing price and the 30-day average as released by IBJA or any other SEBI approved exchange. The second is purity. The 18 carat item will get the rate of 18 carats and is worth almost 18% less than 22 carats.

The third input is, loan-to-value ratio. For a loan amount of ₹2.5 lakhs, it is 85%, for ₹5 lakhs, 80%, and above ₹5 lakhs, 75%. Our 5 grams falls well within the limit and therefore, 85% will be our ceiling. The bank can still lend lower than that.

Step-by-Step Calculation: Loan Amount for 5 Gram Gold in 2026

This worked example employs 5 grams of 22 carat net gold, which refers to the weight of gold minus stones and other non-gold items, at a reference price of ₹13,800 per gram.

  1. Multiply the reference rate by the net weight: ₹13,800 x 5 = ₹69,000. This is the collateral value, not the loan.
  1. Apply the LTV ceiling for the slab: ₹69,000 x 85% = ₹58,650. This is the maximum the regulation permits.
  1. Allow for lender policy. A lender applying 75% would sanction ₹51,750.
  1. Deduct any processing fee or charges disclosed in the loan agreement to arrive at the net amount credited once verification and the remaining formalities are complete.

The per-gram rate changes daily, so the figure declared at the branch on pledge day is the one that applies.

22 carats being the most prevalent standard for jewellery in India, the third row presents the usual case. While the 24 carats row pertains to coins issued by banks that have an upper limit of 50 grams per borrower and are also not acceptable by some lending institutions, bars & bullions are ineligible for this purpose.

Does 5 Gram Gold Meet the Minimum Loan Eligibility?

On amount, generally yes. Many lenders apply a minimum loan value, and at 2026 prices a 5 gram 22 carat pledge produces a loan in the ₹50,000 to ₹59,000 range, above a typical floor. Weight is the more relevant check: neither a minimum weight nor a minimum amount is set by the regulation, and 5 grams may or may not clear a particular lender's weight floor.

Repayment Options and EMI for a Small Gold Loan

Two structures are common. Under bullet repayment the principal is paid in one go at closure; the Directions cap it at 12 months on consumption loans, with renewal only after accrued interest is paid. Under EMI repayment each instalment carries principal and interest. The table shows illustrative EMIs at 12% per annum.

Documents and Process for a 5 Gram Gold Loan

  1. Photo identity proof: Aadhaar, voter ID or passport
  1. PAN card, or Form 60 whatever applicable.
  1. Address proof: Aadhaar, passport or an accepted utility bill
  1. A recent passport-size photograph
  1. The gold ornaments themselves, for weighing and purity testing

For loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, the RBI Directions do not mandate a detailed credit assessment, though lenders may apply their own policies, and whether salary slips or bank statements are sought depends on the lender. A declaration of ownership is taken on every pledge. Additional documentation requirements, if any, depend on the lender's policies, loan amount and assessment requirements.

How IIFL Finance Supports Gold Loan Applicants Pledging 5 Grams

An individual may avail of the IIFL Finance gold loan facility against a 5 gram pledge, provided that the product is available and the borrower qualifies. A 5 gram bar of gold having a purity between 18 to 22 karat pledged by an individual between the ages of 18 to 70 is usually eligible. Subject to applicable regulatory requirements and lender policies, funds obtained through a gold loan may be used for various legitimate personal or business-related purposes:

  • Short-term stock purchases for kirana and small retail businesses
  • Tuition, coaching or examination fees
  • Medical expenses and hospital deposits
  • Vehicle repairs and seasonal household costs

The borrower watches the purity check, receives all charges in writing before signing, and the ornaments go into safe custody. Once the loan is closed, the lender has seven working days to hand the ornaments back, with ₹5,000 per day of compensation for lender-caused delay. Unlike a sale transaction, a loan against eligible gold collateral generally allows the borrower to retain ownership, subject to repayment and the lender's applicable terms and conditions.

Conclusion

gold loan on 5 gram gold comes down to weight, reference rate and slab. At an illustrative ₹13,800 per gram for 22 carat and the 85% ceiling for loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, the figure is about ₹58,650, and a lender applying 75% would offer close to ₹51,750. Purity moves the number more than anything else, with 18 carat pieces valued around 18% lower. Minimum-amount floors are generally cleared at 2026 prices; minimum-weight policies vary by lender. Valuation procedures, disclosures, and collateral handling are carried out in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1.

How much loan can I get for 5 gram gold?

Ans.

About ₹58,650 for 22 carat gold at an illustrative ₹13,800 per gram and the 85% LTV ceiling, or around ₹51,750 at 75%. The full value of the metal, ₹69,000, is never lent. The branch figure on pledge day settles the matter, and stone deductions can reduce the net weight below 5 grams.

Q2.

How much gold loan will I get per gram of gold?

Ans.

Up to ₹11,730 per gram of 22 carat gold at an illustrative ₹13,800 reference rate and the 85% ceiling, subject to lender policy. An 18 carat piece is valued at its own lower rate before the LTV is applied. No lender type gets a higher ceiling than another, and the declared per-gram rate changes with the market each day.

Q3.

How do I calculate the loan amount for 5 grams of gold?

Ans.

Four steps. Take the day's reference rate for the assessed purity, multiply by the net weight of 5 grams, apply the 85% ceiling for a loan of this size, then deduct any charges disclosed in the agreement. At ₹13,800 per gram that gives ₹69,000 in value and ₹58,650 at the ceiling. Net weight excludes stones and non-gold parts.

Q4.

What is 1 gram of 22 carat gold worth today in India?

Ans.

It changes every trading day. IBJA publishes rates for each purity, with 22 carat in the region of ₹14,000 per gram through the second half of 2026. However, when taking out a loan, the borrower has to use the lower of the prior day's close or the 30-day average; hence, the valuation rate may be slightly below the spot price for the day.

Q5.

Is 5 grams of gold enough to get a gold loan in India?

Ans.

Yes, normally. According to the cost per gram of gold at 2026 price levels, 5 grams of 22-carat gold will be able to secure a loan worth approximately ₹50,000 to ₹59,000, meeting the lenders' minimum amount requirements. The problem would be the minimum weight requirement of the lender.

Q6.

What documents are needed for a gold loan on 5 grams of gold?

Ans.

Photo ID such as Aadhaar or voter ID, PAN or Form 60, address proof, a photograph and the ornaments themselves. Income proof may not be sought at this loan size, depending on lender policy, and a declaration of ownership is taken on every pledge. Disbursal follows once verification and the remaining formalities are complete.
