A borrower who last pledged gold in 2024 will notice one change in 2026: the same ornaments now support a larger loan. The RBI's Lending Against Gold and Silver Collateral Directions, 2025, implemented by regulated lenders from April 2026, replaced the earlier 75% ceiling with a tiered cap of up to 85% for smaller loans, and ₹95,000 sits inside that first slab, where an LTV ratio of up to 85% may apply, subject to applicable conditions and lender policies. What the borrower will not notice is any change in the documents required for a gold loan of Rs 95,000, which remain identity, address, PAN status, photographs and the gold itself.

For loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, the RBI directions do not mandate income proof or a detailed credit assessment, though lenders may apply their own policies. This guide explains what moved and what stayed put, lists the file, works out the gold for ₹95,000, covers pricing and tenure, and sets out the application steps.

Impact of the 2025 Directions on a ₹95,000 Gold Loan

Two things. First, the LTV cap. At 75%, ₹95,000 called for gold worth about ₹1.27 lakh; at 85%, it calls for about ₹1.12 lakh, which is roughly a gram less of 22-carat gold at illustrative current prices, subject to the rate on the day. Second, borrower protections: the seven-working-day return rule, the ₹5,000 daily compensation, and the borrower's right to watch the purity test were written into the directions.

What the directions did not do is add to the KYC file for loans under ₹2.5 lakh. Income assessment is not mandated below that line.

Documents Required for a ₹95,000 Gold Loan

The file is:

  1. Photo identity proof, such as Voter ID, Aadhaar, Passport, or Driving Licence
  2. PAN card, or Form 60 in its place
  3. Proof of address, such as Aadhaar, Passport, or a recently issued utility bill
  4. Two passport-size photographs
  5. The gold ornaments to be pledged, for purity testing and weighing

Earnings documents are not typically asked for at this size. The directions do require the lender to satisfy itself about ownership, which a receipt settles at once and a signed declaration settles where there is no receipt, under the lender's procedures. Additional documentation requirements, if any, depend on the lender's policies, loan amount and assessment requirements.

Income Proof and Credit History at ₹95,000

The detailed repayment-capacity assessment in the directions applies above ₹2.5 lakh, on a single loan or on a borrower's total loans against eligible collateral. Ninety-five thousand is below it, so the ornaments carry the decision for a small business owner or an agricultural household alike.

Lenders may seek more under their board-approved policies and KYC rules. Credit history may be considered by lenders in accordance with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements. Eligibility generally rests on Indian residence, being 18 or older and owning the gold, with each lender's age band and KYC rules applying on top.

How Much Gold Covers a ₹95,000 Loan?

Under the 85% cap, the pieces need an assessed value of around ₹1,11,760. The lender values gold at the lower of the previous day's closing price and the 30-day average published by IBJA or a SEBI-recognised exchange, at the reference price for the assessed purity, and counts net gold only.

A necklace of some weight, or two bangles with a ring, generally gets to 7.9 grams net. Stones and fittings are deducted first, and 18-carat pieces are valued at the reference price for their own purity, so they need to weigh more.

Interest Rate and Tenure for a ₹95,000 Gold Loan

The directions regulate LTV and leave interest alone. Interest rates and charges may differ across products and lenders based on operational, funding and risk-management considerations. Interest plus valuation and processing fees over the tenure is the total cost of the loan.

Bullet repayment consumption loans are capped at 12 months by the directions. Monthly-interest and EMI options may sit alongside. The lender's charge sheet may be read before signing.

Steps to Apply for a ₹95,000 Gold Loan

  1. The applicant approaches a regulated bank or NBFC branch offering gold loans, or starts the application on the lender's approved digital channel where one exists.
  2. The KYC file and the ornaments intended for pledge are submitted.
  3. The lender's valuer weighs the pieces and tests purity in the borrower's presence, issuing a certificate that records purity, gross and net weight, deductions and value.
  4. The lender provides the loan particulars covering sanctioned amount, interest rate, tenure, charges and repayment mode.
  5. The agreement is signed, and funds are credited once verification and the remaining formalities are complete.

From there, the directions give the borrower a 12-month cap on bullet repayment consumption loans and a seven-working-day return of the gold after repayment, with ₹5,000 per day owed for any delay attributable to the lender.

How IIFL Finance Supports Gold Loan Applicants

IIFL Finance may offer a gold loan of ₹95,000, subject to product availability, borrower eligibility, collateral assessment and prevailing regulatory requirements.

Subject to applicable regulatory requirements and lender policies, funds obtained through a gold loan may be used for various legitimate personal or business-related purposes:

  • A commercial vehicle repair or part replacement
  • Stock for a small retail, dairy or food outlet
  • Education fees for the year
  • A family event ahead of seasonal earnings

The applicant is present for the purity test, receives the charges in writing, and the gold stays in custody for the life of the loan in accordance with regulatory requirements and lender policies. Repayment can be planned around the season or month the money arrives.

Unlike a sale transaction, a loan against eligible gold collateral generally allows the borrower to retain ownership, subject to repayment and the lender's applicable terms and conditions. Figures here are illustrative, and terms vary by applicant.

Conclusion

The 2025 directions made ₹95,000 reachable with less gold and left the paperwork alone: photo ID, PAN or Form 60, address proof, photographs and the ornaments. Income proof is not mandated at this size, though lender requirements may vary, and the loan is sized on the assessed value and the applicable LTV ratio.

A gold loan may provide access to funds against eligible collateral while allowing ownership of pledged gold to be retained. Valuation procedures, disclosures, and collateral handling are carried out in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1.

Did the RBI directions change the documents needed for a ₹95,000 gold loan?

Ans.

No. The directions changed the LTV slabs, the valuation method and the borrower protections, and they require the lender to establish ownership. The KYC file itself is what it was: photo ID, PAN or Form 60, address proof, photographs and the gold. Two photographs are commonly requested, and the lender retains one copy of the valuation certificate while the borrower receives the other.

Q2.

Is income proof needed for a ₹95,000 gold loan?

Ans.

No. The directions do not mandate income proof, though lender policies may vary. The jewellery is the security, so the assessment is on the gold. Credit history may be considered under the lender's internal policies, and a board-approved policy may still call for income details in particular cases, so practice can differ between lenders.

Q3.

How many grams of gold for a ₹95,000 loan?

Ans.

Roughly 7.9 grams of 22-carat gold on the illustrative price used above, at 85% LTV, against closer to 9 grams under the old 75% cap. The IBJA-linked rate on the day and the purity found set the final figure. Lower-purity items are valued at the reference price for their own purity, so an 18-carat piece needs more gross weight for the same value.

Q4.

What if the gold value falls during the loan tenure?

Ans.

The directions require the LTV cap to be maintained through the tenure. A sharp fall in gold prices may lead the lender to seek a part-repayment or additional collateral, depending on its policies and the agreement. The lender's policy on an LTV breach, including the action it may take, is set out in the loan agreement.
