With a little over 750 LEED*(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified projects, India is third in the table. About 20 million square meters of area in India is covered by green buildings. - A US Green Building Survey, January 2018 mention.

Majority of residential or commercial buildings in India are constructed with a very little emphasis on the fact that your office or residential space could actually be affecting the environment.

This Happens because of the unawareness of the benefits of the architectural designs of green architecture.  Sustainable architecture takes backseat owing to substandard construction materials and techniques. Not many know that buildings in India account for 40% of total energy consumption. Due to rapid urbanization in the country, the energy consumption is more than 60% in residential real estate projects.

Here in lies the answer to India's need for sustainable real estate sector, ‘Green Buildings'. A green building in its design, construction, and operational phase has:

With Government launching many Housing and Infrastructure Development initiatives at Central as well as state level e.g. Smart Cities Mission (SCM), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) etc., the need and demand for green buildings has grown multifold. The aim of such initiatives is to make cities and human life safe, inclusive and sustainable over a long period.
