Through its amendment issued on 9 February 2026, the Reserve Bank of India increased the mandatory collateral-free lending limit from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh, with the revised provisions taking effect from 1 April 2026. The revised framework also continues to cover eligible Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) beneficiaries and permits lenders to consider collateral-free lending of up to ₹25 lakh for well-performing micro and small enterprises, subject to their internal credit policies.
